ABOUT THIS SITE

Gujarat with its vast biodiversity in flora and fauna draws attention of researchers, academicians and tourist alike. Gulf of Kachchh with an area of 7300 sq. km. is biologically one of the most productive and diversified habitats along the west coast of India comprising of algae, mangroves, corals, sponges, molluscs, prawns, fishes, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Most of the information on flora and fauna is available online but mostly scattered on different online sources.Therefore due to its floral and faunal biodiversity, Gulf of Kachchh forms an ideal ecosystem to create an online database of its species. The main purpose of this site is to showcase the general and scientific information related to wildlife of the Gulf of Kachchh on a single platform. The information hosted will be of two types:

General- describing taxonomic classification, key features, distribution, diet, habit, habitat and conservation status of the species.

Scientific- providing links and citation to scientific papers and journals available on the species.

 

'Bioresources Status in Select Coastal Locations' of National Bioresource Development Board, Dept. of Biotechnology (Government of India) and M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation as well as Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Project's Fifth Interim Report of GEER Foundation, Gandhinagar is being used as a reference source for species checklist of GoK.
